Itinerary

DAY 1. Drive to Suesca.

Your guide will greet you at the airport and drive you to Suesca. Escape the hustle and bustle of Bogota, and go straight to the rocks where you will enjoy clean air ‘en el campo.’ Option to climb or explore the town depending on your arrival time. Don’t be surprised if you feel a bit tired! Suesca sits at 2500m elevation. In the evening, as part of your warm welcome to Colombia, we invite you to dinner. We’re so glad you could make it.

DAY 2. First Climbing Adventures.

Your expert lead guide will take you to a fun warm-up crag. There, he’ll get familiar with your skills and go through some basic teaching and instruction to set you up for a safe and enjoyable trip!

DAY 3. Full Day of Climbing!

By now you’ll be feeling more comfortable in Colombia. Your guide will show you some climbs to push your limits and help you work on your technique. There’s a big variety in the rock at Suesca, so lots of opportunities to try new things.

DAY 4. Drive North to San Gil and rest your climbing muscles.

Right away you will notice a difference in the air. Friendly people and a warm climate make for a beautiful side trip to San Gil. The local rafting run is a world class trip led by highly qualified bilingual guides. Simply put, the Class V Rio Suarez is a must do while we are in Santander province! The rafting trip is optional and there are lots of other fun activities you can do to get a feel for the colourful local culture and beautiful landscape.

DAY 5. Class V Rafting Adventure on the Rio Suarez. Are you ready to get wet today?

Meet at the rafting office downtown after breakfast, then drive out to the river and bash your way through the big waves and frothing holes led by the best guides and kayakers in the country. After the awesome rafting tour, and lunch, and a shower, it’s time to drive to La Mojarra climbing area. Goal is to leave San Gil in time to enjoy the scenic drive across the Chicamocha Canyon in daylight. It’s likely that arrival and check in will happen at the eco-lodge after dark, but that just means you will wake up in the morning and see the amazing views for the first time.

DAY 6. Rise and Shine! It’s time to explore new rocks at La Mojarra.

The eco lodge is built directly on top of the cliffs, so you can take your time to enjoy a coffee, stretch out in the yoga house, and eat a big breakfast to fuel up for a full day of climbing. Whenever you’ve had enough for one day, or if you want to go back up the stairs to the restaurant for lunch, the climbing areas are only 5 minutes from the lodge.

DAY 7. Awesome Full Day of Climbing.

By now you’ll be feeling comfortable at La Mojarra and your guide will show you some fun climbs to test your limits. At the end of the climbing day you will feel at home in this amazing place run by climbers, for climbers. Best climbing atmosphere in all of Colombia! Tonight, celebrate your climbing accomplishments with a big feast.

DAY 8. Last Chance to climb before departing to Bucaramanga.

Depending on your flight arrangements, you might have a chance to climb for a few hours in the morning. Whenever you need to get to the airport, transportation will be provided to the Airport in Bucaramanga. From there you can catch a short connecting flight to Bogota and head home.

You don’t need to be an expert to have a safe and fun climbing experience at Suesca and La Mojarra. There are a variety of walls and routes with beginner friendly grades and South America Rocks always employs expert guides to manage a safe and fun experience.

Yes, there are restaurants with a wide variety of vegetarian friendly options. And your guides are more than happy to make a special trip to the local market to pick up all the healthy and delicious fruits and vegetables you desire to munch on through your trip.

Don’t worry, airport staff are easygoing and helpful and once you exit into the arrivals area we will pick you up and take you to the hotel to meet the rest of the group.

  • Colombia is a lot safer than you think, Bogota and the other major cities are very modern
  • Bogota tap water is safe to drink, but a bit bleachy
  • Purchase drinking water at the climbing area, or bring a good quality water filter.
